Caveat with High Performance Top Coats is that over "white" paint- it can slightly yellow.

* Apply very thin!* It is non-yellowing and offers easy water clean-up. It contains all the consumer-friendly characteristics of PolyAcrylic Blend. In addition, it contains a UV Stabilizer to protect it from breaking down in sunlight and to protect the underlying stains from fading.

With its pure polyurethane durability, it's a great choice for hardwood floors.

Applying this top coat over a large flat surface like a table top? General Finishes recommends using a 6" Painter Pad with a "stocking footie" over it to apply your High Performance Top Coat.

APPLYING OVER GEL STAIN?:

High Performance Top Coats go great over the Gel Stains we offer! When using Gel Stain's- LIKE A STAIN- (normal application, wiping the Gel back off).....where you can wood grain showing through the finished piece- follow the wait and cure time noted on the container- which is waiting at least 48-72 hours. BUT- if using the Gel Stain for fuller coverage, like a paint- THEN the waiting time between the last application of Gel Stain and your first application of a High Performance Top Coat, should be longer. That wait time is dramatically increased if the Gel is “painted on.” It can sometimes take up to a week for the Gel to “off-gas” and dry when it is applied using the ‘painted on” method.

Remember to gently stir product before using. The flattening agent often settles on the bottom. Do not shake since you do not want to create bubbles. When apply the top coat - do not play with it once on. Try to minimize "back brushing" since this can cause the top coat to have flashing. Top coats behave differently than paint- so remember to respect that.

High Performance Top Coats go great over the Gel Stains we offer!

This product is listed on The Purple Painted Lady site to go along with the Gel Stains we offer!

This can be used over Chalk Paint®. Some customers water the General Finishes HP Topcoat down. A good ratio to reference is 1/3 water to 2/3 topcoat. I know of some who have even done as much half and half. The reason for watering the top coat- is so that the topcoat will soak into the chalk paint® and not sit on the surface. It bonds with the paint. It is suggested to do two coats of this so that the Chalk Paint® is sealed enough, then you can use a General Finishes glaze. If using a glaze and doing multiple coat- it is suggested to put a coat of HP Topcoat in between layers of glazes also. That way if you do not like your results, you can wipe off with water and start again and the previous finish is not messed up. By watering the top coat slightly- It just flows better and gives a better looking finish...with no brush marks. If wanting more of a sheen- always use a brush, applying in the same direction and do not thin your last few coats as much.
